Harry's class at school has steel can with a slit in the plastic top for coins. The can is for spare change that kids might find in their sofas at home or under the seats of their cars and whatever is collected is to be given to the victims of the tsunami disaster in the south of Asia. Over the last couple of weeks the teachers have been telling the kids that it's up to them to look for the spare change and yesterday Harry pulled sixteen cents out of his piggybank to bring to school. He got a big ink stamp on the back of his hand that seemed to make him very comfortable. So today, he decided to bring in a dollar of his own money and as he was getting it out of his piggybank he talked about the school supplies it would help the victims buy. He said he would take his gold $1 coin. Probably stupidly, I suggested he save that cause it was kind of a special coin and take four quarters instead since it was the same amount of money. He thought that was OK, but I wonder if I tempered his enthusiasm toward generosity.
