January 24, 2006 - Tuesday
Today was not the first time I'd ever read to the boys in the library, but it was certainly the longest that I've done it. The usual routine when we go there has been that I look for books to take home while the boys hang out in the playroom. There have been a couple of occasions when I've found enough books quickly enough to sit down with a book and maybe one or both would take a break from the toys and listen, but that's fairly rare. I suspect today I read for the better part of 45 minutes sitting out on the chairs in the main children's room, not the playroom, with Harry on my left and Jeremy on my right. We read most of the books we were planning to check out, including twice through the always captivating story of Ping, the little yellow duck whose home was the wise-eyed boat on the Yangtze River.

I guess in hindsight, the boys have been a little less interested lately in the toddler-oriented toys in the play room and more active about looking for books on the shelf (that's a bit dangerous with two of them doing it!) And we did go there today with the expressed purpose of trying to find another Blaze book (C.W. Anderson) for Jeremy to replace the Blaze and the Forest Fire that he's been asking for almost nightly at bedtime. So, maybe it shouldn't have been so much of a surprise. Ah, but it was a nice surprise.
