April 15, 2000 - Saturday
Harry's maternal
aunt and uncle are in town again and will be around much more in the near
future. Uncle Ben has accepted a job in the area and they will be moving to
our metropolitan area. They arrived two days ago in hopes of securing both
a place to live and a job for Harry's aunt and yesterday she had a very successful
interview. She said she was virtually offered a job at the high end of her
expectation curve, plus the possibility of temporary housing in a corporate
apartment, with the caveat that the offer needed to be "checked with
one person" before it was official. Seemingly an ideal situation, they
nonetheless fought complacency and went out today looking for other possible
apartments. She has another interview, and a potential second, early next
week at other companies that would likely not offer similar housing.
While they were out looking for housing, Harry's mother and I took the opportunity
to do the same. Living in the city has been extremely convenient, but neither
of us is particularly interested in living here permanently and Harry is the
excuse we needed to find a new home in the country where he'll have room to
play, to run, to bike, and maybe have a dog.
We we drive, Harry has to sit in the back seat and because he is still less
than 20 lbs, he must face backwards. In order to see him, I've place a mirror
behind him that I can see if I look in the rear view mirror. It works like
a charm: that is I'm usually charmed looking at Harry staring out the window
watching the world go by.
