July 14, 2000 - Friday
About a week ago, Harry
started exploring a new noise that sounds a bit like gargling. His French Uncle Ben and virtually French Aunt Lisa both say he sounds like a little French baby practicing the guttural "r" sound. Noises come and go and often reprise and Harry's brought this one back just in time for Bastille Day.

Another sound that Harry has been reprising of late is his most beautiful and innocent "hoo" sound. It's stronger now than it used to be, with more air behind, but it's still one of the happiest noises in my world.

Take two...
I wrote the above in the afternoon, but that was before the real action for Harry started today.

Harry's been refusing to eat a lot lately and I've been theorizing that he needs to take a more active role in his eating. The thinking is that this may be his first jolt of independence. And, for this one incident, it seemed to work. I handed him a corn cob, no corn left nor any butter or salt, for him to gnaw on. At first he didn't know what to do with it, but it didn't take too long, perhaps from watching us do the same, for him to start trying to eat it, too.

But the still bigger news for today was Harry's first crawl step. He's been showing signs of breaking out for while now and it was only a matter of time. Harry's mother, his grandfather, and I were sitting out on our deck after dinner and all saw it. It wasn't that much, but a clear move forward using both arms and legs.
