Harry's game has reached a wonderful new level. Harry
and I are effectively playing catch and I'm not sure who's more excited about
it. Over the last couple of days, Harry has been calling for "game" and telling
me to "sit down" or "sit down, over dare." I gladly oblige and Harry will
now throw the ball to me in the air. Sometimes he is several feet away and
sometimes he's pretty close, just past my extended feet as I sit on the floor.
Either is fine with me. I haven't started to throw him the ball in return.
I dare say that his motor skills haven't progressed that far yet. However,
today Harry did a much better job than even just yesterday at literally catching
the ball as I rolled it to him. I even made a conscious effort to roll it
to different places to see how far he's come: first to his right side then
to his left and between his legs. Most of the time, he adjusted and catch
the ball, then he'd pick it up and throw it back.
Only marginally related: this foot path toy has been in a corner for a while
and not in use for at least a few months. It's no surprise, really, but Harry's
approach to this tonight showed the amazing progress children of his age can
make. Where before there was something of a fun mystery about how the toy
made noise, now there is not. Where Harry used to run up and down the path
making noises as he happened to step on the feet marks, today he lined up
the feet with feet and stomped. It was still lots of fun for him, maybe more,
because now he is in control. I think when it was last out, he had started
to understand about the on/off switch at one end. Today, he worked it: testing
it in both positions by walking on the feet marks to see the result.
