The Mt Auburn Hospital visiting nurse came today and pronounced Harry a healthy
baby. We hadn't screwed anything up in the two days at home. Moreover, nursing
has apparently been going so well that Harry had actually eclipsed his birth
weigh in less than four days. Babies evidently always lose weight in the days
following birth before feeding really begins in earnest and Harry was the same,
weighing 8 lbs 8 1/4 oz on Saturday in the hospital down from the 8 lbs 12 oz
of birth. However, today the visiting nurse measured him 8 lbs 13.5 oz. With
an "oh, that can’t be right" she rechecked the scale, re-zeroed,
and measured the same again. Apparently Harry is an aggressive eater. Mother
agrees.
