We're still not settled into our new house or our new schedule commuting.
The good news is that Harry seems to be handling all the time in the car quite
well. Sometimes his mother
or I will sit in the back with him and keep him entertained, but other times
he just sleeps. However, that can be both good and bad and we haven't decided
which it is yet. It's good, obviously, because he's quiet in the car. The
trouble is that he has lost virtual any schedule he had before we moved and
that may be causing him anxiety elsewhere in his life. Fortunately, for the
most part his sleeping at night doesn't seem to be suffering, even though
he now has his own room in the house and no longer sleeps in a crib in our
bedroom. We still have a baby monitor on, but he's alone.
Harry's two morning a week daycare provider, on the other hand, has not been
able to successfully give Harry a bottle for a while. I think this difficulty
started before we moved, but it's hard to remember exactly and there's no
doubt that the problem has reached a head. We understand that refusing to
eat is a normal phase for babies, but the fact that Harry's been with his
mother so much over the last few weeks and almost always has had a direct-from-the-source
milk supply, and the lack of a schedule of morning bottles, is likely no help.
And, whether it's related to him not getting enough to drink or not, Harry's
been a bit constipated lately. The doctor says not to worry yet and we've
been giving him some prunes. So we'll see what "happens".
Finally, Harry is really stepping up his independence
when it comes to eating with a spoon. He does pretty well at lunch sometimes,
but dinners have been busts many times lately. He'll shut his mouth and keep
it closed longer than before and now he's started to use his hands to swat
at incoming entrees.
