June 16, 2000 - Friday
Harry is six months
old. However, any celebration will have to be left to his mother, because
I'm traveling on business and left early Wednesday morning in a cab for the
airport. I did spend a moment during the day today to look at Harry's pictures
on the website, but admittedly did not take enough time to go back through
much of the past months of Harry's growth. On the other hand, I frequently
look back through the pages at Harry's younger life. I hear "they grow
so fast" often, but it's absolutely true at this age. Harry's already
much bigger and has moved quickly past the developmental stages that once
fascinated him, and me.
I've written before that the day Harry was born was memorable but perhaps
not necessarily the best day of my life. But, after six months, it's easy
to remember it differently and understandable why so many people say it. Now
that I'm a bit removed from the details, I'm tempted to think that all I've
learned about Harry over the last six months was there from the start. Tie
that with the mental snapshots of his peeking eyes looking around the delivery
room and his swaddled body lying on his mother's chest and it seems like a
pretty great day. And, it was a great day, just not for that reason. It was
a great day because it was our introduction to the happy little boy who now
shares our life.
