May 7, 2000 - Sunday
Some friends of
ours with two young children of their own had the wonderful idea to take the
kids on a picnic. We already had tentative plans to get together this afternoon,
but the weather was too nice to be indoors. So, we packed a lunch and Harry's
diaper bag and headed for a local, historical park.
Naturally, Harry spent most of his time lying on the blanket, but he remained
completely absorbed in the uniqueness of his surroundings, at least compared
to being inside most of his short winter life. Best of all, he had a chance
to feel the tickle of grass on the bottom of his feet. I'm sure it was little
more than perplexing for him this time, but hopefully he'll come to know the
feeling well when we move to the country in a few weeks if all continues on
schedule with our new house.
Since their younger, Eleanor, is about twice Harry's age, and their older,
Colin, is in his twos, there wasn't too much interaction between the three
kids beyond a few curious glances. But, it's good for Harry to see other babies
and toddlers since he's not in daycare yet. Harry did meet with more of a
contemporary last night at a dinner party. A young girl, just seven weeks
older than he, was there and moving at a similar speed. They charmingly reached
for each other's hand in the slow motion of tentative infants.
