October
3, 2000 - Tuesday
A week ago, when I put on a CD after dinner,
we thought we saw Harry doing something like dancing. He was sitting on the
floor with his upper body bouncing up and down in apparent reaction to the
music. His daycare often has music of different types playing and we know
that sometimes, when the group of kids seems to be getting bored, they turn
on some children's tunes and get all the kids dancing together in the kitchen.
It seemed as though Harry had gotten the idea. But, last Tuesday was also
the night that Harry was clearly on his way down and into his most serious
illness of his young life, so in hindsight, we second guessed his dancing
as a possible sickness related pang. However, now that Harry is mostly better,
it is clear that these are not the gyrations of pain, but indeed, his early
attempts at moving to the music. He has done it often enough when CDs are
playing and even when I'm just singing a happy song to leave little doubt
that he's picked up on the dancing, at least in some elementary cause and
effect kind of way. He's only got the one move so far, and his timing needs
a little work, but it's very cute.
Harry did visit the doctor's office today about his
ear, but two different doctors couldn't find any obvious explanation for
the oozing. His eardrum seemed to be intact, though the amount of build up
in the canal made it difficult to see. So, they decided to wait and see if
the ear got better on its own. If it's still a problem next week, they'll
look again.
