This is Harry's Tap 'n' Turn Bench,
a present his mother got for his birthday. It took him a couple of weeks,
but he sure has gotten the hang of it now and I have to admit that I'm a little
surprised. Somehow I thought toys like this were more things parents bought
because they'd be cute once or twice, but not used so regularly by kids. Harry,
however, uses it all the time and for surprisingly prolonged sessions. He'll
turn it over several times in a row after hammering some and often all of
the shaped pegs down. What's more, he turns the bench with great satisfaction
and vigor over and over. Admittedly, he hasn't quite gotten the actual hammering
wrist action down yet, instead usually hitting the pegs with the butt end
of the hammer rather than the peen. But, then, the Tap 'n' Turn Bench is a
toy for much older kids.
