Harry's
got two more words: "wow" and "oh." Insubstantial, perhaps,
but to me, Harry's delivery of these words marks a dramatic step forward.
He uses vocal inflection. For example, Harry's quite taken
with trucks these days, always pointing them out and saying "uck"
as they go by. But now, when we see them first and say 'Harry, look, a truck'
he'll often respond with "oooh," with the cutest rise and fall of
pitch as he holds the vowel. He does the same with "wow." His voice
is already high pitched, of course, so the parabolic pitch change in the middle
is quite striking. But, it's beautiful, too, because it shows that his ears
and brain are learning the sounds around him. Pretty soon he'll be singing.
