Today was Harry's last day with his current daycare provider.
Starting on Monday, we'll be taking him to a new family daycare in our hometown.
I will start working more from home and we'll both thankfully avoid the long
commute. We made the decision to change a few weeks, but it was not without
hesitation. With Harry's sibling on the way,
it is clear that our daily commute into the city would end, at least during
his mother's maternity leave. Thus, it seemed wise to have Harry firmly settled
in a new place so his routine won't completely change when the baby comes.
Changing now also feels good because Harry, now walking and talking, is much
less happy in the car for these extended periods of time. He's fine for limited
periods of time, but the second half of our commute each way has been an exercise
in keeping Harry distracted with decreasing success. I've been thinking about
working from home since we moved, though perhaps that has as much to do with
avoiding the commute as anything else.
On the other hand, we're taking Harry away from a place he's come to know
and playmates he's come to expect. With now three other toddlers within 4
months of Harry's age, this old place could have been a good group for Harry
to learn from and play with. And, Harry has already learned so much and,
while we have minor stylistic differences with the provider, we know she's
done a good job with Harry and his friends. Hopefully, Harry will be all the
better at the new place.
