April 21, 2005 - Thursday
In the past when I've come home from business trips it's almost always been Harry who gets excited to see me. That's even been the case over the last couple of months, although it seems like he's trying to hide it more and more. Of course, that's his current modus operandi when I pick him up from school these days. (For a while over the last few weeks whenever I'd get there I'd hear his friend Rip call out laughing, "Harry, run," and Harry would play this game of hiding and running away from me. Most of the time I'd just go find Jeremy.) Anyway, when I returned from a four and a half day trip this afternoon, Harry showed no emotion at all when I showed up to pick the boys up from school (although, after we left the playground area it was clear he was excited). Instead, it was Jeremy, at first hiding in the little playhouse, who stomped his feet and giggled almost uncontrollably.
Jeremy's been uncharacteristically clingy for the last few weeks at drop off time in the mornings, often saying he doesn't want to go to school, doesn't like school. I don't think the two are related, but who knows what goes on in a three-year-old's mind?
Mommy says that during a meltdown last night Harry said something like, "daddy should never go away on a business trip again!" He actually intimated the same to me this evening, but in a much more reserved manner that more pondered why I went on these business trips.
