Jeremy hit Harry with a Bionicle this morning before school, not too hard, but overtly. I've been feeling kind of negative about the Bionicles anyway seemingly promoting violent behavior. Last evening around dinnertime I saw Harry very uncharacteristically poke Spooky in the nose and I blamed that on how he play with the Bionicles. I overreacted and got mad about both incidents. It's me at my worst as a parent. After Jeremy hit Harry I told the boys they couldn't bring a Bionicle to school, effectively punishing Harry for what Jeremy did, rationalizing it in the moment because I was really still upset that Harry would do something mean to Spooky. They started to cry. I should have probably stopped and explained it better, but I got madder about the silly crying. I made Harry sit on the stairs. It's starting to upset me that they feel the need to bring toys to school, especially toys like the Bionicles that I know the teachers don't particularly like it either. But, these are kids. This is what's important to them, to have cool things that they can show their friends. I guess I need to lighten up.
