I've received a new pile of DVDs to review for work, including a few for kids. Yesterday, the boys watched some old Mickey Mouse cartoons and this afternoon they wanted to see them again. I said I needed to look at the other new ones and we'd have to watch something else. Oddly, Harry settled on a Barbie movie, even though it wasn't their only choice. When I mentioned it as an option I didn't think for a moment that we watch it. Harry's old enough to be aware that some stuff is for girls and some for boys. His friend Rip is even more attuned to that and often tells Harry about it. And, initially Harry said he absolutely did not want to watch a Barbie movie. Then, all of a sudden something changed and he said he wanted to. He also said he was going to tell Rip he had. Surely, Rip would tell him it was a girl movie and probably laugh at him. I'm fairly sure that was one of the reasons Harry didn't want to watch it at first. What changed his mind is a mystery. I choose to believe it might be some way to kind of be independent thinking, although I really don't know. He also said he that he wanted to watch it because Hannah was his friend, although that came out sounding like more of a justification for getting me to let him watch it.
