Feb. 7, 2000 - Monday
Harry's belated six week check up today continued to confirm his good health.
23.5 inches remains fairly normal and 12lbs 8oz keeps him high amongst
his peers, though the doctor notes that he's dropped a few percentage points
toward being a normal size. With both his mother and I being of slighter stature,
I'd expect he'd not stay huge forever. The doctor also confirmed that Harry's
vocal responsiveness and imitation last evening is likely to be just that, noting
that it's around this age when infants start to try those things.
The doctor's office also means shots and today was a trifecta of misery
for poor Harry. Two nurses gave Harry three shots almost simultaneously,
reputedly to minimize his agony. It was very unpleasant for all involved and
Harry was quite rightly disturbed. Whether it was the extra pain of three shots,
or just his growing awareness of his body, Harry's crying lasted much longer
this time. The big red face wail was a little longer, but subsided soon enough
as the initial pain went away. However, the residual continued off and on until
after we left the doctor's office. I even took him out of the stroller half
way home and carried him the rest of the way. That seemed to help, but he remained
out of sorts and cranky all morning. And, who can blame him? Hopefully, his
confidence is not shaken.
