Harry had a bit of a relapse last night. He woke up twice during the night apparently
thinking it was time to eat. However, I don't blame Harry because I think it
was his mother and me that had the relapse. Harry seemed to be particularly
tired yesterday afternoon and we let him sleep for more than 4 hours in one
stretch. I kind of thought it wasn't the right thing to do, but, as with everything
about parenting, there are multiple theories on sleep and my own self doubt
and a need to tend to other things got the best of me. The theory which we'd
had success with up to now is to not let him get too lazy during the day and,
therefore hopefully, get to understand a schedule of day and night. He'll nap
plenty during the day, but usually not for much more than a couple hours at
a time.
Yesterday, however, we let him go longer. This, naturally, follows a theory
that says his body knows when it needs sleep and will figure out night and day
itself in the long run. We had taken Harry for a drive and visit in the car
on Saturday and figured it probably wore him out. Maybe that's true, but he
was less worn out last night. I think we'll try the first theory again.
