Newborns typically lose their umbilical cord stumps anywhere between 1-4 weeks
after birth. Harry kept us waiting - anxiously waiting - right up until the
end of that, but sometime during last night it finally happened. He has shed
the final visible remnant of the womb and along with it the most tedious chore
- for both him and us - of changing: cleaning around the stump with a swab and
alcohol.
Additionally, with a real belly button finally in place and no need to protect
the stump from elastic waistlines, Harry's wardrobe will dramatically increase.
That's a good thing, too. Harry being such a big baby is already reaching the
limits of some of his infant clothes and needs to start wearing some of his
roomier ones. Not only that, but we have been lucky to have received several
very charming outfits from friends and family and we're anxious to have enjoy
them. The second pants outfit we tried can be seen "with
Dad." Unfortunately, Harry had a little accident with the first one
- from a series of French clothes with little French phrases - before we took
a picture. Fortunately, all Harry's clothes are machine washable.
