Somewhere along the way Harry learned
to drink by himself from a sippy cup. He's liked drinking by himself for weeks,
since the summer in fact, but it's
been a gradual education. The tricky part has been gravity and its demand
for the cup to be tilted. Tonight we were out for dinner, sippy cup in hand,
and I realized that he'd been drinking by himself for a while now. I suspect
he started to master it some shortly after starting daycare full time. He
actually frustrated the daycare provider early on by refusing to drink his
milk from a bottle. We suggested she just try giving it to him in a sippy
cup, though warned that he'd probably need help tipping. However, with five
other toddlers to deal with at lunch, constaint assistance was probably not
likely and Harry just figured it out on his own.
Harry was as good as could be expected at the restaurant, retaining interest
in his food and admittedly everything going on around him, from apetizers
through our main course. Harry's mother thinks he eats better when there are
a lot of distractions. It's a theory that we may push in the future. Harry
also enjoys drinking from adult glasses now and tonight it was water from
a beer mug. However, that he did not do by himself.
