The older kids play rollerblade
hockey on the street outside his new daycare
center and Harry has quickly created his own version of the game in our
kitchen. The best part is that he'll pick up a spatula and go in search of
a ball, calling out "hoc-key" all the while. I played some hockey
as a kid and it's tempting to think of Harry as a prodigy. Unfortunately,
being a tiny kid like I was, Harry will need to develop quite a finesse kind
of game and that is far less common in today's brand of hockey than it was
even a generation ago.
On the other hand, "hockey," which Harry pronounces very articulately,
is perhaps something like the 60-70th word he knows at the tender age of fifteen
and a half months. His mother is thinking about a different kind of prodigy.
