Harry has absolutely come to understand the magic in the word "please"
and is now going to it with the typical toddler double dip when he wants something.
He'll say something like "grapes, please," then after an instant's
pause add the second "please" with that extra emphasis and added urgency
with voice at a higher and more desperate pitch. "Grapes, please ... PLEASE."
"Daddy play game, please ... PLEASE." "Mommy read a book, please
... PLEASE." On the one hand, it's really quite endearing, but I suspect
over the weeks and months to come it will become less so with its frequency.
But, it's hard to begrudge politeness, however self-interested. And, Harry is
already showing that it is often sincere, now regularly saying "please"
and "thank you" when appropriate and "bless you" whenever
someone sneezes or coughs. In fact, almost without a doubt, he says those kind
words more often than his more learned, but more stoic-from-life parents.
