June 11, 2004 - Friday
I was gone all this week on business and got home this afternoon just in time
to pick up the boys. These are usually very fun days. The boys haven't seen
me in a while and they're happy I'm back and usually smiling and looking for
fun. And, it was that way today, too, but not for very long. Jeremy was happy
when I got him at Mary's and then I snuck up on Harry and spun him around
outside at school and he laughed and smiled for a moment. But, right away
he got into his "don't!" mood. Maybe it's a "dad you're embarrassing
me" kind of thing, I don't think so, but I don't really know. He then
started playing with some toy, a little plastic baby jai alai type ball and
catcher, and didn't want to play with me. He also didn't want to share with
his friends at school. That would have been fine because Jeremy did want to
play with me, as did many of Harry's preschool friends, and we kicked a soccer
ball back and forth several times until our game was overtaken by kids from
    the school, excluding Harry.

So, here I am on my day back and Harry's being a selfish little boy. It wasn't
what I expected. Then, we it was time to go, Jeremy got into his stubborn
mood, not putting toys away and not behaving well, and here I am on my day
back and neither boy is acting particularly friendly or happy or well-behaved.
I told them that I was disappointed in both of them and that we were just
going to go home (instead of doing something fun). Harry seemed regretful,
a little anyway, but things got back to normal far too quickly.
