March 3, 2004 - Wednesday
I called home for just the second time today from Japan.
Actually, it was evening where I was and breakfast time for the boys and that
is part of the problem with calling. Of course, I think Harry is interested
in the idea that it can be morning one place and evening in another. The other
part was simply understanding a phone system in a different language that
doesn't take credit cards.
The big news, however, was from Jeremy, and, unfortunately, I didn't understand
what he was telling me. I was in a restaurant when I called and the background
noise made it a little hard to hear. And, Jeremy talks quietly and with typical
two-year-old elocution and he said something a couple of times that I didn't
understand. I ultimately just said "ooh" in an excited tone. What
he was saying, his mother quickly added after the fact, was that he had pooped
in the toilet for really the first time. With Jeremy, I don't get the impression
he has much of a hang-up about using the big toilet. He's peed in it many
times and even made serious efforts to poop there. But, he's just not quite
there in terms of doing it for purpose rather than novelty or praise. Despite
many suggestions, he still quietly slinks off to another room for #2. But,
last night mommy caught him in time and he had a major success.
