The music school finally found a new cello teacher and today Jeremy had his first lesson with Tim. I think it was a bit of a shock to both of them. I don't know whether he's just playing or not, but for the last couple of days since we told Jeremy he would have a new teacher he's kept saying, "I hope it's Kate." We explained that it most definitely will not be Kate because she had to move away, but still he's persisted. As it turned out, Jeremy went through the entire lesson without saying anything. Tim understood that he was a little shy, but seemed to be more intrigued by the possibility of working with someone so young (apparently the school didn't mention a 3-year-old among his potential students).
This will certainly be interesting to watch develop. I'm sure much of the reason why things were so wonderful with Kate is that she was quite charmed by Jeremy. He's a charming with the ladies and he knows it and he used it. Kate loved it and they got along well. The limited progress over the semester was fine, but clearly abetted by Kate letting Jeremy decide when he'd had enough. With Tim, Jeremy probably won't be able to rely on that charm of his. What's more, aside from me Tim will be Jeremy first male authority figure. I keep thinking it will probably be good for him; that is, if they can make it through the first few lessons. Today was a bit rocky in that regard, but Tim didn't seem deterred. Hopefully Jeremy won't be either in the long term.
