December 6, 2006 - Wednesday
At an odd moment at dinner tonight (mommy is away for the week), Harry said something about Diet Coke and babies. I was, at that moment putting a log in the fire and didn't hear it that clearly, but he caught my attention when I heard him tell Jeremy something like:
"...then it would get into all our stuff and put everything in it's mouth. It wouldn't be so good."
"What are you talking about Harry?" I asked.
"Diet."
"What about diet?" I thought I heard that word somewhere in there.
"I was talking about seeing the word 'diet' and I know that mommy drinks Diet Coke."
"And what did you think 'diet' meant?"
"I don't know, but I thought it had something to do with making babies."

I did not pursue where this idea had come from, although I can only assume that he sees lots of women drinking Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke and made a leap. Perhaps his kindergarten teacher from last year who went on maternity leave in April had been a Diet Coke drinker. I did assure him assure him, really without giving a thought to the potential direction the discussion might subsequently take, that "diet" did not have anything to do with babies and that it was about losing weight. Fortuantely, Harry turned the discussion to Spooky saying maybe she should go on a diet.
