Harry had this idea to bring Spooky for Show-and-Tell back in April back before vacation week. I'd asked him if anyone else had bought a pet for show-and-tell and when he said no, meaning it was an original idea rather than a me-too thing, I looked into it. It took a while, a check with the school policies, and whether there might be any allergies in his class, but it was finally arranged for today. I came at the agreed upon time and was able to see Harry, as well as a couple other kids in turn, sit on a chair in front and talk about whatever they'd bought to show the class. I guess the procedure is that each child is asked to say three things about their item, then ask whether anyone has questions or comments. (I found it a little humorous that for their third statement about their item, each kid said, "it's very special to me.")
Of course, bringing a live guinea pig made Harry's presentation a little different. After saying his three things, the teacher suggested that Harry bring Spooky around so each child could pat her while he answered questions. Harry did a great job. He was very gentle with her, while still allowing each child a chance to touch her. And I thought he was particularly good with one particular special needs child who started to reach a little too hard. Naturally, Harry was very proud, but always in a pleasant and modest way. I was very proud, too.
