After again consulting with the Executive Director about the appropriateness of a 4-year-old going to a more formal chamber music concert, I took Jeremy to see the Indian Hill Chamber Orchestra this afternoon. The chamber orchestra is made up of mostly first chairs for the full Orchestra, and so it's a quality ensemble, but the concert program today was geared more toward accessibility and inclusiveness. Specifically, a handful of top students from the music school got to join the chamber orchestra for a rendition of Pachelbel's Canon in D and young teenage violinist, who'd won a concerto audition, and her teacher played the Vivaldi Double Violin Concerto. And I must say that I enjoyed both very much, particularly as I sat next to Jeremy looking so attentive and interested. Canon in D was on a tape that Jeremy had picked for the car a couple of times over the last month of so and as soon as it started he turned to me and whispered, "I know this song."
As we did at the faculty recital, Jeremy and I sat downstairs (in the first row) for the first half of the concert, and then went upstairs into the balcony for the rest of the concert. He did a fabulous job sitting still downstairs again, but he also liked it upstairs where he could fidget a little bit. But we stayed for the entire concert and afterward, when one of the staff asked Jeremy if he liked the concert, he answered, "Loved it!"
