The boys and I went to our "old house" again today
and this time it was a lot of fun. I think it helped that
one of the boys' favorite shows now is "This Old House
(and "Ask This Old House), because they got into the
fixing a lot more this time. Admittedly, most of the repairs
were fairly quick and things that the boys were able to help, like screwing a door knob into place or handing me pieces while I was
fixing an overhead light fixture. But we also needed to go back to the old house (after meeting mommy for lunch and visiting a Tufts paleontologist) to fix a faucet in the bathtub, including mixing tile cement and sealing the area around the faucet. That took a little longer and there really wasn't much the boys could help with, but even that work out fine. They just played with some of the tools on the bathroom floor, pretending to fix imaginary things and saying things, a la Tom Silva of This Old House, like, "and no, ma'am, I'm going to...", and "do you see this ... ma'am, I'm going to use that to fix..." It was very charming.
