It's a little hard to know whether this is a good deal or not: Harry has started participating in the Pizza Hut Book It program. That means that if he reads eight books in a month he gets a coupon for a free personal pizza at Pizza Hut. And he gets to do this every month from October to, I think, May. There's not any requirement on what books he needs to read. They can be very easy or harder. He just has to read them himself and write them on his list. We, his parents, have to sign off on the list before he turns it in for his coupon
Harry read his eight books in October and tonight we went to Pizza Hut for dinner. Harry's coupon saved us about $3, but his excitement about the whole thing probably means will be back for dinner once a month and, of course, our meals are not free. But heck, I shouldn't be cynical. It's a nice idea, even if it is self-interested marketing. And if it encourages Harry to take pride in his ability, then it's great. Our waitress congratulated Harry and he seemed to feel pretty special. I can certainly eat a modest chain pizza once a month for that.
