This is my spiel about responsibility and I"ve told it to Harry before, actually I said it a lot last year in relation to his getting ready for the school bus in time, but I think today was the first time for Jeremy:
When babies are born their parents have to decide everything for them because they don't know anything. That's a parent's job. By the time [Harry and Jeremy] grow up and turn eighteen, they'll have learned enough to decide everything for themselves. And in between that time, how much we [their parents] decide for them and how much they decide for themselves depends completely on how responsible they are. If they're responsible, they decide. If they show they're not and don't make good decisions, we'll have to decide and we'll have to boss them around. If they don't want us to boss them around, they should be responsible.
