Here's a child development moment yielding mixed emotions: a shot
at the doctor's office a couple days ago hinted at Harry's continually improving
sobbing and whimpering capabilities and today was another remarkable - in some
ways - step down the same path. Harry and his mother had a little accident when
his fast-flailing arms placed one of his little fingers between the two pieces
of a plastic seat buckle that she was in the process of fastening. It was not
a serious accident in any bigger picture sense, but Harry was definitely caught
off guard and quite uncomfortable with the new sensation in his finger. His
mother knew the trouble instantly and ceased buckling procedures, but a quick
look to Harry face confirmed the silent groundswell of his emotions on the subject.
Blood rushed to his face, his mouth opened wide, and then, after the normal
delay, the sound came. But, then there was something else, something that had
not been there before with similar outbursts. Harry had tears.
It happened again later in the day we I was holding Harry. He got hungry and
I tried to divert his attention as his mother was in the other room. But, Harry
was committed to his diet and stated his demands more clearly, including the
full effect of his newly realized talents. His mother came instantly.
