30, 2000 - Sunday
Every Super Bowl Sunday for the past six years, we've hosted a Super Bowl party,
taken over from Harry's Aunt Jane who did the same for several years prior while
she was living in the area. With Harry around we had considered forgoing
the event, but decided to instead scale back our efforts to little more
than Harry's extended family in the area, plus Aunt Jane, who was making
a visit back to the area.
For the record, the game itself was arguably the most exciting of
the XXXIV that have been played. It was won by the St. Louis Rams 23-16, but
the Tennessee Titans had a great chance to tie the game on the last play with
the ball around the 12 yard line. A quick slant over the middle, Steve
McNair to Kevin Dyson, netted 11 yards and as Mike Jones was making the solid
open field tackle to end the game, Dyson was extending the ball in vain toward
the goal line. Kurt Warner, the Rams' QB, was the MVP and while he wasn't a run
away MVP, it capped a fairy tale year. He came out of the Arena Football
League and NFL Europe to make the Rams as a back-up, then started after
the first QB was injured, then won the league MVP, then won the Super Bowl
and the Super Bowl MVP. This brief recap is committed here on the chance
that Harry will have no personal memory of the game.
Harry's Aunt Jane and future Uncle Kris made the rather long trip to the party, but
they came with something of a purpose and something of a surprise. They are
making Harry a cousin, expected to be a Libra. Harry does have one cousin,
but she is 10 years older. This cousin will be within a year of Harry and a
hopeful playmate at family events and functions. While Aunt and Uncle barely
stayed past the kick-off, they did claim Harry's first
hand-me-downs.
