Little babies' pliable little faces can yield a plethora of different expressions
and it's easy to try and read a lot into them. Harry has a happy look (we like
that one), a bored look, a clever look, a curious look, an angry look, a disturbed
look, a disgusted look, a perturbed look, an embarrassed look, a scornful look,
a determined look, an excited look, a sad look, a philosophical look, a pouty
face, a red face, a blank face, a sneering face, and a sleeping baby face.
Unfortunately, while it's easy and very tempting to over-intellectualize the
significance of those always-charming expressions and grant Harry high intelligence,
he's just a baby and most of them are just gas or some other bodily function
at work.
On the other hand, we had another, more definitive episode of Harry imitating.
This time I was offering him my frequent wide-mouthed happy face with audio
and Harry was unmistakable smiling and opening his mouth as wide as he could,
a new endeavor for him, and seemingly copying me for perhaps a couple minutes.
It's hard to believe he knows he has a mouth, but the circumstantial evidence
was extremely powerful this time. Wow! It's amazing to think about what's going
on it that little head..
