March 26, 2000 - Sunday
Harry's aunt and uncle have been visiting for the extended weekend and we
drove places both days. That's fine for us adults, but it is more time in
the car than Harry is accustomed. Yesterday, we drove an hour north for brunch
and then another 45 minutes farther north for the afternoon. The trip home
was a little more than an hour and a half. Today, we went south to Harry's
great aunt's farm. It's usually about an hour each way, but we did some sightseeing
and were really in the car for a couple hours straight on the way there. (While
at the farm, Harry was doing a fabulous job standing for several seconds at
a time, albeit with support on the sides so he wouldn't tip over.)
I'm always curious to try new things with Harry and was interested see how
he'd do with so much time in the car. He seemed to handle both excursions
quite well. On both occasions, Harry may have benefited from the fact that
his mother was sitting next to him and was able to distract him during the
times - which were admittedly few - that he was not sleeping. And, naturally,
the fact that we broke the travel down into mostly hour 1-2 hour legs helped
because Harry should be taking naps during the day anyway. Nonetheless,
it's comforting to know that Harry is portable.
