March 27, 2000 - Monday
Although Harry's uncle had to leave yesterday, Harry's aunt is staying with
us a couple extra days and today helped tend to Harry while his mother was
off at work. I stayed at home as I usually do mornings, but with her looking
after Harry, I wasn't bound to pay as close attention to all his little, and
sometimes big, noises. For
me, that meant a morning of actually working from home more than just during
Harry's 45 minute nap.
And, Harry made the most of his time with his aunt, showing her his full range
of moods and vocalisms. With all the stimulus he had and all different places
he saw over the weekend, I quite expected Harry to be easily bored this morning
and anxious about where his next thrill would come from. He proved me sage
indeed. With a relative lack of new sites and sounds compared to the last
two days, Harry gave his aunt an earful at any hint of a malaise in her morning
agenda for him. At times it took both our intellects to decipher Harry's cryptic
desires and instructions. Thankfully, after a nap and a good serving of milk,
our delightful boy emerged and treated his aunt to a wonderful exhibition
of his best singing and laughing.
I suppose when he's looking for stimulus like this he's quite receptive to
new activities and that's an encouraging sign of his development and curiosity.
The problem is that thinking of new activities for a young brain are not always
so easy for older brains and can be tiring work. Ah, but when everything comes
together, it can be such pure happiness.
