Harry can stand by himself now
without holding anything
for about five seconds. After that he tends to get a little nervous and slowly
descends into a squat and then a crawl. Sometimes when he's standing there
for those few seconds, I look at him and think I see in his eyes that he knows
what's going on: that he's standing by himself and that he's so close to walking
for the first time and that he understands the magnitude of that milestone.
His eyes seem to open a little wider, and he gets a little hint of a devious
grin, but then reality seems to strike him. The twinkle leaves his eyes and
the grin turns to concern as he realizes that he might fall and how embarrassing
that would be...or at least how much it would hurt if he hit his head on the
floor. He's had experience with that.
Or, maybe it's just me. But, the standing part, he does that.
