I got home this evening and Harry said, "hi, dad." That's "dad,"
not "daddy." He's been doing that with both his mother and me lately
and I'm not sure why he's transitioning to the shorter monikers. I can only
surmise that he hears the kids at daycare talking to their mother as "mom."
On the other hand, I guess I've been saying "Harry, it's your dad"
for a long time on the phone. Still, somehow he sounds precocious saying "mom"
and "dad" instead of "mommy" and "daddy." His
mother doesn't think, or perhaps just doesn't want to think, he's old enough
to call out the classic drawn out "mo.o.o.o.om" in times of anguish
or embarrassment.
