The first time Harry watched the Thomas the
Tank Engine video we have he was visibly and vocally disturbed by all
the crashes. His mother had to turn off the tape before it was done. But,
curiosity is often more powerful than apprehension in a two-year old and within
a day Harry had been drawn to the dark side of the human condition, lured
by the intrigue of crashes and asking to watching the video several times
over. Since then, his fascination with crashes has only increased. What is
it about boys and destruction? I certainly don't claim to remember as far
back as when I was two, but as far back as I do remember I did not share this
particular interest in destructive behavior. To this day car crashes and explosions
in movies generally seem very silly and messy. I am not thrilled by the special
effects.
