"We're lost, dad." I really don't know why, but this has become
Harry's constant refrain when we're in the car. His mother thinks it might
be from "Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Too," when Rabbit, Pooh , and
Piglet get lost in the woods, but we have not read that book in quite a while.
There's also no car involved with that story and the stretch somehow seems
too great to me. I tend to think it has more to do with Harry's understanding,
or lack of understanding, of exactly where we are at a given time. He doesn't
say we're lost on the way to daycare, for example, and he does note when we
arrive at a place he does know. Still, there are some places we get "lost"
that I know he's been before and probably recognizes. You can say what goes
on in his head?
