Harry's class went to an easter egg hunt at the nearby senior center and brought
home a bag with a limited number of candy eggs. He asked for that bag as soon
as we got in the car and I gave him one, but he said he would wait and give
one to Jeremy. Very thoughtful, I thought, so I let him hold the bag. Sure
enough, we Jeremy go in the car, Harry gave him one of the few remaining chocolate
eggs.
After picking Jeremy up we headed to the pet store for a few extra supplies
for the new Spooky. On the way Harry said he was going to share his candies
with the kids at the pet store.
"That's a very nice idea, Harry, but are you sure you have enough?"
I asked.
"I don't have enough. I'll give them to just the boys at the pet store,"
Harry said after a little idle banter.
"Gee, I don't know whether that's very nice, to discriminate against
the girls."
"What's that word you said?"
"Discriminate? That's when you treat someone different just because they're
different from you. It's very nice of you to think of sharing them, Harry,
but maybe it's better this time to save them."
"I only have one. You can have it, dad. Here, dad."
"Thank you very much, Harry. That's very nice of you."
