April 3, 2004 - Saturday
Harry had his first real play date today! It's been about a month since we
met some new neighbors from down the road with a son less than a month younger
than Harry, a son, further, who already attends the
school Harry will be changing to shortly. In a way, it's a little surprising
it took this long. Rip was here from about nine this morning until, thanks
to Harry's preemptive invitiation for him to stay for lunch, almost one in
the afternoon. I guess that's a success just in terms of time together, but
I think they both had fun. It started a little rough, with each boy having
a different idea of what they ought to do. Rip took right to Harry's Thomas
trains, but Harry hasn't been very interested in those anymore and they were
out because Jeremy has been playing with them. But, they played in Scoop
and the tent up in Harry's room, I took them into the basement, and they threw
balls on the stairs. I spent more time overseeing them than I might have expected.
I thought they might want to be left alone. But, I suppose at four a little
direction and re-direction from time to time is probably prudent.
