April 29, 2004 - Thursday
There are two McDonalds near us and before this afternoon (and dinner with dad) it'd been a while since we'd gone to the one with the larger Playland with the two slides. We have been to a smaller one a few times since and Harry has gotten quite comfortable with the slide they have there, but the big pink slide at the one we went to today still had Harry a little nervous. He did remember the smaller green slide and had no hesitation about going down that one, but it took until it was time to get ready to go for him to get the nerve up to slide down the big pink swirly one. I actually thought he was hiding in the tubes after my saying in was almost time to go. Then ,all of a sudden he was there at the bottom of the big slide yelling, "I came down the pink slide and I liked it!" He did it a few more times before we had to go. He's overcoming anxieties and that it wonderful to watch.
Before we got there I was trying to decide what to let Jeremy do. The sign says the Playland is for 3-year-olds and up, but Harry could well have led him up. I guess I had decided that Harry could probably get him out again if necessary, but it never came to that. Jeremy just played in the first level where I could see him. But, it won't be long before Jeremy goes through the same. I've already noticed that his old fearlessness has given way to a more mature awareness of possible danger.
