There is a boy at Harry's school, Jonathan, that has effectively taken the
place of "Noah" from his old
school preschool. Jonathan is the boy, I'm told by teachers (mentioned that
Harry had mentioned him by name and asked whether there were any personality
issues I ought to be aware of), most likely to need to have his behavior refocused.
Indeed, when I ask Harry why he doesn't like Jonathan he answers that it is
because Jonathan "gets think times."
Of course, today Harry was playing with Jonathan when I got there and I don't
really think it's all that rare. I've now seen that Jonathan can have his
moments, but he and Harry are pretty much the same age and do play together.
So, the question is why Harry continually says he doesn't like the school
because Jonathan is there. My sense is that there are two likely possibilities.
First, Harry is a very sensitive boy
who gets uncomfortable when he sees some
other child misbehaving and/or being punished for it. Second, he just would
rather stay home than go to school (nothing abnormal there) and is just using
this as the best excuse he can come up with. My guess is that it's a little
of both.
