Harry found a puzzle in the Maine cottage this evening shortly before bedtime.
It was a 1000 piece puzzle, far more difficult than anything he has done previously
and really far too difficult for him. Yet he spent a surprising amount of
time working on it. Admittedly, he was probably trying to delay bedtime, but
there was a maturity and patience about it that seems new to me. Harry's always
been a thoughtful and intense boy and it's easy to see him becoming this boy
that stood quietly looking at and trying to match the many pieces of a lighthouse
scene, but . So, I suppose watching him standing there doing the puzzle was
a little like looking into the future and, because of that, this little episode
is both insignificant and one of the most compelling reasons to be a parent.
