The boys liked the "sleep over" so much they wanted to do it again.
And why not? We'd originally thought we leave it for special occasions, but
tomorrow isn't a school/work day and if they're together when they wake up
there's a good chance that they won't come into our room right away, but rather
play together for a while. With tomorrow night being Sunday, and an easy "no"
because it would be a school night, we figured they'd be fine for another
night. This time they probably talked for 45 minutes, but that's fine, I figure
they're just bonding.
In fact, I've been thinking about this idea of a sleep over since Aunt Lisa
brought up the intriging idea that she might have Chloe and Andre share a
room for a few years even though they have enough rooms in their house. Her
thinking begins with the realization that just about everyone she knows who
shared a room with a sibling as a child seems to have closer relationships
as adults and that maybe sharing space forces learning and accommodating.
And, while American's tend to view giving each child a room as something of
a status thing (I can buy a big enough house), Europeans, including Uncle
Ben and his younger sister, and indeed much of the rest of the world, view
sharing bedrooms as quite normal. I did share a room with my brother until
I was 5 and have very vague memories of that, but I do remember he and I rigging
up some kind of short-range two-way radio so we could talk at bedtime. It
was a novelty and didn't last too long, as I remember, but it stands out as
a memory from our earlier school years.
When we do the sleep over the next time, we'll need to figure out a better
solution for the day bed. Jeremy fell out of it twice. Maybe Harry should
use the day bed, although he'd have even less room in it than his brother.
