Uncle Tom decided he wasn't going to have kids and sometimes I think that's
a bit ironic because he actually tends to enjoy kids more than I do, at least
in the generic. And he's putting together a fine resume when it comes
to finding Christmas presents for Harry, too. Admittedly, he tends to push the curve
a little with things that are perhaps a year or two ahead of Harry's age level
(like the desginer tumbling blocks of last year and this year's wonderful
throwback "Battling Tops"). But I think that's probably better than
the more stereotypical kids' presents that tacitly assume that kids don't
grow very quickly intellectually from year to year, let alone develop mysterious
predilections about what is cool, as Harry is this year in Pre-K. Battling Tops is something that
Tom and his brothers, and I when I was at their house, played often and have
fond memories of and it's just the kind of crazy, manic action thing that
boys would generally like. Admittedly, it took Harry a few tries to get the
hang of it, but that only afforded another little lesson about the frustration
of learning and the joy of having learned. After a while he was winding and
battling all on his own. And really loving it.
Meanwhile, Jeremy did a
new firetruck puzzle with Amy.
