January 8, 2005 - Saturday
The boys had their first swimming lesson this morning and, although I was on a flight home, I'm told that it was an unqualified success. I was a little more worried about Harry, since he tends to be shy about new things, but we had been by the pool when we signed up a couple of weeks ago and saw his friend Aidan in the middle of a lesson. I guess that helped because they apparently went right in, did exactly what the teacher wanted, and then complained that it was too short. Maybe I should have known, too. I warned Harry earlier in the week that he might be scared at first, reminding him of how he got nervous when we first arrived at one of Rip's soccer practices but then had a great time, but when I tried to tell him about that again on the phone yesterday he just brushed me off and matter-of-factly said "I know not to be scared."
