A kind of strange thing happened this afternoon when Harry watched Jeremy's firefighter video from the library. It included scenes in which firemen were talking to kids about what to do in case of a fire and apparently it really scared Harry. I didn't see this whole thing unfold, but there were no graphic recreations of fires, people being overcome, or anything, just firemen expressing the seriousness of fire and what people can best do to avoid harm in the case of a fire in their home. On the other hand, that's scary enough for a little child. I certainly can remember worrying as a boy that our house might catch on fire. Harry must have had some sort of epiphany about bad the world not being so safe because for the first five minutes of dinner he was whimpering and saying he wanted to go outside. His mother and I could only rationalize about the unlikelihood of a fire in our house and that fact that we have a good smoke detector system to warn us early. Eventually Harry calmed down enough to eat his dinner and even talk rationally and logically about fires and being safe.
It's possible that Harry was acting, or perhaps at least emoting, but we think he was seriously scared.
