I know I probably shouldn't do this, the back seats in a car are safer than the front passenger seat, but for the last couple of weeks I've been having the boys sit up front when one of them and I are alone in the car. We're just traveling across town either me dropping Jeremy off at school in the morning or Harry and I going to pick up Jeremy in the afternoon. We never get going very fast (indeed, I am a much more cautious driver in the hybrid because it has an up-to-the-second display on gas usage and my brain is so interested in maximizing value that I never speed up fast anymore and often go slower than I used to just to ride on the electric motor). More to the point, though, it's so much nicer to have the boys sitting right there to talk to. It's makes conversations much more possible, like yesterday's discussion of the bus incident. I guess I've done it enough so that both boys, especially Harry, are starting to fool around with things like the visor and if that continues I might have put them in the back. But for now it sure is nice to just hang out one on one for a few minutes in the car.
